Module 3

1. Module 3/ Course Outline Assignment of Initial steps
2. Summary of this weeks work: The first part of this module I learned about the ADDIE Analysis Phase. It includes four sub phases Instructional goals, Instructional analysis, Learner analysis, Learning objectives. I also start on the Initial steps of becoming a baseball coach. I put together what an average student needs to know, content analysis, general goals, and the enhancing learning.
3. Items of interest: In this module the item that interest me was learning that the Analysis phase in ADDIE had four sub phases and learning about each one of them was really helpful.
4. Problem of Concern:  Does anyone have any kind of suggestions on General goals that students would need to know when becoming a baseball coach?

  1. Coach Gilewicz,

There is more to becoming a baseball coach than just knowing the fundamentals of the game. Before becoming a baseball coach, the person should know and be able to recognize all the rules of the game. There are more rules to baseball other than knowing three strikes is an out and four balls is a walk. Rules such as the last day an Area game can be played is important, as well as pitching count rules. I believe a good resource to include in your course content is the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Baseball Rule Book. It can be accessed through this link: http://ahsaa.com/Portals/0/51034%20baseball.pdf?ver=2017-08-17-160049-557
It is important to make your students aware that these rules and standards only apply for high schools in the state of Alabama. You could conduct a scavenger hunt to be completed with this PDF. I believe that would teach your students some important facts. Another idea I have for you is to have the students locate the rule book for college baseball. I hope these ideas help you. Good luck!

  2. Coach Gilwicz,
I think some general goals for becoming a baseball coach could focus some on fundamentals of the game but should also reflect how a coach will affect students/teammates. Some general goal ideas that support my idea are linked below. I hope these help!

  3. Coach Gilewicz,

Like others have said previously, knowledge about the game is really important, but don't let that be the only thing you focus on. A coach should be a great strategist, have an eye for talent evaluation and have a solid foundation in leadership. A future coach should also have training in first aid and CPR in case anything was to happen while their students are training / playing. Hope this has given you some ideas for some general goals!
